Our philosophy

We treat the nervous system, not just the skin.

A glasshouse spa in the Somerset hills, phone-free since the day we opened in 2014.

The Verdé Serenity glasshouse interior

How it started

A greenhouse, a farm and a stubborn idea.

Verdé began as a working greenhouse on a Somerset flower farm. Two of us — a physiotherapist and a botanist — spent a winter arguing about why spa treatments felt so relentlessly busy: the music, the upselling, the phone buzzing in the locker.

We opened in 2014 with three treatment rooms and one non-negotiable rule. Phones stay at reception. Not on silent, not in a bag — at reception. It cost us perhaps a fifth of our first year's bookings, and it is the single thing guests mention most in reviews.

Down-regulate, restore, re-enter. Every treatment we offer follows that same arc, in that same order.

By the time hands touch skin, your body has already spent an hour doing the harder part of the work — moving out of the state it arrived in.

What we hold to

Six things we will not compromise on.

📵

Genuinely phone-free

Locked at reception, every visit, no exceptions made for anybody. It is the reason the building feels the way it does.

🌾

Grown, not bottled

Our oils are pressed from a farm we part-own, eleven miles away. Nothing synthetic, nothing tested on animals.

🔇

Under forty decibels

No music above a whisper, no talking in the pool hall, and soft-close on every door in the building.

💧

Real spring water

Three mineral pools fed from our own borehole, filtered and warmed but never chlorinated to death.

🚫

Nobody on commission

No therapist here earns a penny on retail. If they recommend a product, it is because they used it on you.

⏳

Time you can feel

Thirty minutes before, thirty minutes after. We build both into every booking rather than selling you the middle alone.

The therapists

Eleven people, all of them clinically trained.

Every therapist at Verdé holds a Level 4 qualification or above, and four of our team came from physiotherapy or sports rehabilitation rather than from the spa industry. It shows in how they assess you.

Nobody joins the floor without eight weeks of shadowing, and the whole team retrains for two days every quarter — with the spa closed, and everybody paid, which is rarer than it should be.

Who you might meet

Rowan leads our deep-tissue work and does not believe in "no pain, no gain". Ines designs the contrast circuits and will happily explain the physiology if you ask. Marit looks after facials and reactive skin, and has talked more people out of treatments than into them.
